The original artwork is a 6x6” acrylic painting on a gallery thick (1.5” deep) cradled birch wood panel. Once dry, the painting was coated in glossy resin, creating a heightened 3D effect. "Manhattan" is the twelfth painting of my crowd favourite, 12-piece "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" series from 2021.

Build the bar cart aesthetic of your dreams from this collection of 12 classic cocktails.

The stunning reference photos for this series were curated and captured by Mauricio Ledón (@mauricioledon).

Care Guide

Handle the print as lightly as possible, with oil-free, gloved hands if possible. The oils from our skin can tarnish and discolour the surface of the print.

What is a "giclée"?

Giclée (pronounced jhee-clay) is the term coined for the latest generation of fine art reproduction. The term means “to spurt” in French and comes from the fact that a giclée printer is basically an inkjet printer taken to the extreme. Giclées are printed with a microscopic sized dot pattern allowing for virtual continuous tone printing. Using 10 different coloured inks we are able to capture a range of colours previously unheard of, resulting in the absolute highest quality print imaginable.

The "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" Series

The project started as an assignment when I attended the Ottawa School of Art for their portfolio certificate program in 2020/2021, then bloomed into a 12-part series with the goal of releasing a 2022 calendar.

This cocktail series was my first real foray into still-life scenes and in order to ensure a cohesive body of work (and in the interest of expedience) I partnered with a talented photographer friend of mine, Mauricio Ledon (@mauricioledon) to build and capture the reference photos for me.

From there I created 12 acrylic paintings, done on 6x6” birch wood panels that are 1.5” deep. When complete, the paintings were covered in a glossy layer of resin, creating an extreme 3D effect.

The experience of building out this series, playing with resin for the first time and selling every piece to excited collectors was truly wonderful and opened my eyes to what I could accomplish were I to launch into full-time status with my studio.

The series was so popular that I turned the paintings into prints so now collectors can build the bar cart aesthetic of their dreams by mixing and matching their favourite classic cocktails and beverages in quality giclées.
